  • Air-conditioning in the Tropics
Regulations governing the placement of air-conditioning units and systems require work to 'design-out' energy guzzling, noisy and unsightly problems. The Tropical Green Building Network in conjunction with Project Air conditioning’s Keiren O'Brien presented the problems and recommendations to the Urban Design Advisory Board on the 25th September 2009. The presentation is attached to the document deposit area below. The TGBN needs to move this issue along with AIRAH the Cairns Regional Council and industry stakeholders.

  • Recycling Construction and Demolition Waste
The aim of the subgroup is to focus on Construction and Demolition waste. With the introduction of the new waste levy by the State Government in December 2011 and the knowledge that 'much of the C & D waste can be a recoverable resource’ the TGBN would like to move forward a regional strategy by planning for action on C&D waste recovery solutions with other industry stakeholders, LAWMAC and the FNQ Regional Organisation of Councils. Please see the document deposit below relating to this work.

  • Grey Water Systems
The Grey water system subgroup is working towards the creation of a map for the Cairns region that will provide information on areas where systems may be installed and areas where installation will not comply with regulation. The group is working with the Cairns Regional Council and Tropical North Queensland TAFE GIS mapping students to complete the maps. Currently soil layers are being further identified for the Mount Sheridan pilot study area. Please see the document deposit below relating to this work.

  • Energy Rating
Thermal Performance Simulation Software will be a Deemed to Satisfy solution to comply with the proposed 2010 edition of the Building Code of Australia – Volume 2. There is a concern amongst designers that naturally ventilated tropical designs found in Northern Australia may struggle to comply with the proposed building regulations. See the document deposit below relating to this area.
