Kill-a-watt..and $ave launch

Postby greenbuild » Sat Mar 01, 2014 5:05 pm

Within hours of the Kill-a-watt..and $ave launch at the Cairns Chamber of Commerce luncheon on the 25th February, business operators registered to start their energy saving journey!

Following the launch the website went live, ready for registrations. Overnight, businesses have taken advantage of the subsidised Energy Audits to identify wastage and start saving.

RDA FNQ&TS would like to extend a special thank you to our pilot participants for their invaluable input- Helga Biro, Centacare Cairns, Col Craig, Joe Vella Insurance Brokers, and Gil Risa from Cruze Coffee and also to Evolve Energy for their advice, guidance and input during the preparatory stages of the project.

The RDA FNQ&TS “Kill-a-watt… and $ave” – Tropical Energy Saver Project, is funded through the Department of Industry and is designed to help businesses and community organisations identify where energy savings can be easily made with little or no cost, and bankable improvements that could be made through capital investment.

At the launch it was revealed that business managers are becoming energy conscious with cost increases between 47 per cent and 78 per cent since 2008 (on business Tariff 20). We believe all workplaces can reduce their energy consumption by 20 per cent through low or no cost actions and up to 50 per cent with capital investments such as upgrading energy efficient appliances.

The first step to saving is to understand where energy is being used, where it is being wasted, and where efficiencies can be made. The subsidised Energy Audit isolates where energy savings can be achieved by identifying:

What’s happening in your workplace
Wasteful energy use
Opportunities for savings
Participants will have access to staff engagement resources and practical industry specific advice to apply in the workplace- fact sheets, 24 seminars across the region and 12 industry specific webinars via the project website. All these elements are offered free of charge to businesses and community organisations across the region. A 1300 helpline will also offer free energy saving advice for the cost of a local call. Audits are offered as per below:

Level 1 $99 which represents a subsidy of 80%
Level 2 $990 which represents a subsidy of 50%
*Limited numbers so please don't delay

Our website is now live with access to our formal registration and audit purchase gateway. Project materials will be available soon, so sign up to our newsletter today and keep informed of the Kill-a-watt campaign!

In March 2014 we will be seeking to develop a Supplier Trade Directory for use by our participants. Our intention is to offer special rates and services via a detailed prequalified register of local suppliers and service providers. Please register your interest directly should you be interested in undertaking the prequalification questionnaire.
